Stamping Capacity Guide: Match Press Tonnage to Your Part

Stamping capacity is the real filter between capable and incapable factories. It is not about one large press. It is about matching tonnage, die design and process control to your part.

Why Tonnage Matters

Tonnage is the force a press applies to the sheet. Too little force fails deep draws and weakens corners. Too much force wastes cycle time and over-stresses tooling. For stamped and deep-drawn parts, tonnage follows part size, material and draw depth.

Tonnage Matching Reference

Part type Typical draw depth Common press range
Shallow drawing, flanges, brackets Under 20 mm 60T – 160T
Medium deep drawing, housings 20 – 60 mm 160T – 300T
Deep drawing, cup parts, battery trays Over 60 mm 300T – 400T

These are planning ranges. The final tonnage comes from die design.

Deep Drawing: Where Capacity Is Proved

Deep drawing pulls the blank far into the die. As depth grows, required force rises quickly. A factory must run the draw, trim and secondary operations as one controlled chain. We run deep draws on presses up to 400T, our largest single-station press. That keeps deep parts stable from the first hit to the last.

What a Real Stamping Shop Floor Looks Like

  • 40+ stamping presses from 80T to 400T
  • 70,000+ different types of custom metal parts made since 1999
  • In-house die making, laser cutting, bending, welding and surface treatment
  • 120 staff, including 19 engineers who review every tooling design

Stamping is one step of our full production chain. Laser cutting, bending, welding and finishing follow in-house. So capacity problems never jump to another supplier.🔧Click here to view our complete list of equipment.→

FAQ

What press tonnage do I need for deep drawing? Most deep draws need 160T to 400T. Exact tonnage depends on part diameter, material, thickness and draw depth. Send us your drawing and we will size the press for you.

Can a small factory do large deep-drawn parts? Not reliably. Deep drawing needs high tonnage and repeatable die work. A shop with presses only in the 60T–160T range cannot hold 400T-class draws.

How many presses does your factory have? More than 40 presses, ranging from 60T to 400T. Our largest single-station press is 400T.

What does “70,000+ custom metal parts” mean? It is the number of different part types we have made since 1999. Each project differs in size, material and process combination.
